New Year, New You?

Note: Originally posted on January 1st, 2012

New Year’s Eve; a favourite night of many and equally a night most would rather miss.

Is New Years a time to sob into your sambuca whilst feeling melancholy at times past or is it full of happy with memories of things you’ve done, places you’ve been and people you've met?

What about looking forward? Do you feel a sense of dread not knowing what the next 12 months hold for you or do you relish in the unknown, that the world is your oyster and the year is yours to explore?

Make a promise to yourself. I’m yet to meet someone who has ever kept their New Year’s Resolutions, so rather than making promises to myself that I know can’t/won’t keep, I’ve decided to set myself some goals that will make me a happier person and hopefully a better one too.

In the next 12 months I’d like to:

1. Visit a new continent – I’ve visited Europe, North America and Africa (more specifically the Middle East but hey, it’s not a specific continent) and by no means have I explored these places to their full potential, but I aspire to have a few more travel notches on my belt.
In the wise words of Mark Twain, “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.”

2. Meet 100 new people – I’m a strong believer that we can learn something new from every person we meet. Be the first to say hi and be open minded. There is a lot we can learn from one another.

3. Learn how to longboard – because it’s the closest thing to snowboarding in summer.

What are your goals for 2012? Massive and monumental or small and personal, if they mean something to you, share them with the world.

For now,
Jones x
